Product Life Cycle

Southchip Semiconductor Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries categorizes the product status of each product as "Pre-sale", "Active", "Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND)", " Last Time Buy " or "EOL".

Pre-sale: The product is avaible for sale as an experiment pruduct, but has not yet been mass-produced. The product is subject to change during the engineering validation process prior to mass production.
Active: The product is released to the market and available for purchase. Newer alternatives to some products are available.
Not recommended for new designs: The product is still in production to support existing customers. However, it is late in its life cycle, SOUTHCHIP offers no or limited design support for this product.
Last Time Buy: The date of the customer's last purchase before the product is completely discontinued.
EOL(End Of Life): The product is no longer in production.

Product Life Cycle

Product Shelf Life

Southchip Semiconductor Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries (“SOUTHCHIP”) uphold integrity and honesty, taking quality as the foundation, and look forward to becoming your trusted partner.

We hereby promise that the standard shelf life of the products manufactured and sold by SOUTHCHIP is two years. Among them, for products graded as 2a - 5a, the shelf life is calculated from the moment when the moisture-proof bag is packaged until it is opened, on the condition that the moisture-proof bag remains intact and the humidity-sensitive card doesn't change color.

The packaging date is indicated in the D/C field of the label. The calculation method for the product's shelf life is to add two years to the date indicated in the D/C field.

As shown in the figure, with the D/C being 2106, it represents that the production date is the 6th week of 2021, and the shelf life lasts until the 6th week of 2023.

Product Change Notification

Southchip Semiconductor Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries (“SOUTHCHIP”)
Product Change Notification (PCN)
SOUTHCHIP refers to industry standards J-STD-046 and ZVEI and will inform customers of changes that affect form, fit, or function of the product or adversely affect the quality or reliability of the product.
The SOUTHCHIP PCN includes, but is not limited to, the following information:
● PCN number
● Reason for change
● Content of change
● Sample availability date
● Affected products
● Product change identification
● Expected (positive/negative) impact on form, fit, function, quality & reliability
● Verification plan/results
● Estimated production shipment date
SOUTHCHIP Contact information
SOUTHCHIP reserves the right to make changes without prior notice when the product's form, fit, function, quality, and reliability are not affected. If customers have any requirements regarding the PCN (such as inquiring about additional data or obtaining samples), they are required to provide feedback within 30 days from the release date of the SOUTHCHIP PCN. Otherwise, the change will be deemed as accepted.

 

Product Discontinuation Notification (PDN)
SOUTHCHIP's product end-of-life (EOL) process refers to the J-STD-048 standard. SOUTHCHIP will strive to avoid discontinuing products for convenience reasons. Starting from the date of the product discontinuation notification, SOUTHCHIP will reserve a 6-month last time buy period for customers, and a 12-month last time ship period. For automotive-grade products, SOUTHCHIP will reserve a 12-month last time buy period for customers, and an 18-month last time ship period.
The SOUTHCHIP PDN includes, but is not limited to, the following information:
● PDN number
● Reason for discontinuation
● Last time buy date
● Last time ship date
● Affected products
● Replacement product (if applicable)
● SOUTHCHIP Contact information

Product Change Notification

Anti-Counterfeit

To reduce the risk of counterfeit products, we strongly advise customers to purchase semiconductor products only through the direct sales channels or authorized distributors of Southchip Semiconductor Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries (“SOUTHCHIP”).

Key Risk Warning:
The appearance, packaging, and labeling of counterfeit products may be almost identical to those of genuine SOUTHCHIP products. However, the manufacturing process, packaging specifications, device identification specifications, storage conditions, or logistics control of these counterfeit products do not comply with SOUTHCHIP standards, thus bringing significant performance, safety, and reliability risks.

Semiconductor products purchased through unauthorized channels (including agents, independent sellers, or online markets/"gray markets") will be considered as:
● Counterfeit or unreliable products
● No quality - guarantee service will be provided
● No warranty service will be provided
● No customer support will be provided

Important Notice

Southchip Semiconductor Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries (“SOUTHCHIP”) provides technical and reliability data (including datasheet), design resources (including reference design,software), application or other design advice and other resources (“Resources”) “AS IS” AND WITH ALL FAULTS.

The Resources are intended for skilled developers designing with SOUTHCHIP’s products. SOUTHCHIP may provide but DISCLAIMS WARRANTY FOR SOUTHCHIP’s technical support or design services for the Customers. Customers are solely responsible for (1) selecting and using the appropriate SOUTHCHIP’s products for your application, (2) designing, validating and testing your application, and (3) ensuring that your application meets applicable standards, other safety and security requirements, and any other requirements. SOUTHCHIP DISCLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR any claims, damages, costs, losses, liabilities arising out of Customers’ use of the Resources.

SOUTHCHIP’s sample products are provided “AS IS” and only for purposes of designing, validating and testing. SOUTHCHIP may make changes, corrections,enhancements, modifications and improvements to Resources and this Notice at any time. Customers are advised to update the latest information from SOUTHCHIP’s website or authorized distributors before placing an order.

Customers shall, prior to, designing, mass producing, using or distributing any of their own products that incorporate SOUTHCHIP’s products, obtain the latest information regarding SOUTHCHIP’s products and test thoroughly for mass production, quality and safety. Customers’ products shall implement the safety and redundancy design, to achieve component traceability and maintainability, so that in case any failures of component occurs, it can be traced back to the specific batch to repair or replace affected parts to avoid further losses. If Customers fail to follow SOUTHCHIP's recommendations, or fail to adopt a safety design, the use of SOUTHCHIP's products is entirely at the risk of Customers, except as otherwise provided by applicable laws and regulations with respect to the limitation of product liability.

Customers should purchase SOUTHCHIP’s products from authorized distributors. Products purchased from unauthorized channels may be counterfeit with quality risks. SOUTHCHIP does not provide customer support or quality services for products purchased from unauthorized channels, and all risks shall be borne by the Customers.

Intrinsic Failure Rate

The bathtub curve is a graph that represents the relationship between product failure rate and relative time or cycle, showing three different stages of product life: Early Life stage, inherent or service life stage, and loss period stage.

The early life failure and inherent failure are mostly caused by defects introduced in manufacturing processes. Many device defects can be eliminated through effective reliability methods.

Early failure stage:During this stage, the product will rapidly decrease from a high failure rate state within the initial usage cycle. The reasons for the failure in this stage are mostly due to defects in design, raw materials, and manufacturing processes.
Random failure stage:Being in a low failure or relatively stable interval failure state, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) can be used to characterize this state.
Wear-out failure stage:During this stage, the product failure rate will increase. Usually caused by factors such as aging and degradation of device capabilities.

Early failure rate refers to device failures caused by defects during the assembly of circuit boards, system assembly processes, or the initial usage cycle of clients.

ELFR (in FIT) = 109 × λ = 109 × χ2 c,d /(2 × A × N × tA)

A : Early failure rate acceleration factor, usually derived from temperature and voltage factors

N : Sample size for aging experiment

tA: Acceleration time within the specified time for aging experiment sample size

χ2: chi-square distribution

c : Confidence level

d: free radical

FIT: Failure in time device failure rate, which can be expressed as the number of device failures that occurred in 109 hours. For example, 1 fit can understand that 1 million devices will experience one failure after 1000 hours of operation, or 1000 devices will experience one failure after 1 million hours of operation.
